Stop Waiting to “Get It Together”: Start Now
Let’s talk about this phrase I hear all the time:
“I just need to get myself together first.”
What does that even mean?
As a coach, I hear this phrase in nearly every consultation—and I’ll be honest with you: it's usually just code for “I’m afraid to start.”
Let me ask you something: Who actually has it all together?
Are you comparing yourself to that influencer on Instagram who looks like she’s figured out life? Are you hoping, wishing, and waiting for some magical day when everything clicks?
Here’s the truth: That day doesn’t exist. It’s a myth. A delay tactic. A comfortable excuse.
And I get it—I really do. I'm not here to dismiss what you're feeling. But let’s be real… most of us are still figuring it out, even at 50, 60, or beyond.
Yes, I’m turning "50 Something" this year, and I still wake up some days feeling like a mess. I’ve realized over time that those moments when I don’t like myself are almost always tied to what I’m not doing—not showing up for myself, not keeping promises to myself, not taking action.
Here’s What I See Time and Time Again
When people reach out for life or wellness coaching—whether it's nutrition, fitness, or confidence—they come armed with stories, past wounds, and fears. And I welcome all of it. That’s human.
But we also come with excuses.
- “I self-sabotage.”
- “I need to get my head right first.”
- “I need to learn to love myself.”
- “Let me get past this crisis, then I’ll focus on me.”
- “I don’t have time.”
- “My partner isn’t supportive.”
- “I’ve lost the drive.”
- “This isn’t who I want to be.”
Sound familiar?
I’ve heard these exact words in Conway, Maumelle, Little Rock, and North Little Rock—across all ages, all backgrounds. We are complicated, especially as women. We want to feel seen, understood, validated. And we talk ourselves in circles. SO MANY WORDS.
And yet—nothing changes until we take action.
The Truth About Confidence and Self-Love
You won’t wake up one morning magically full of confidence and self-worth.
You earn that.
One decision at a time.
One boundary at a time.
One action at a time.
Start with one small thing today. Just one.
It can be tiny. A walk. A meal prep. Saying “no” to something that doesn’t serve you. Speaking up. Showing up.
That’s the core of my coaching philosophy at Rock City Complete Fitness. We’re not about gimmicks or waiting for the “perfect” Monday to start. We believe in movement. Forward movement. Tiny steps that build confidence over time.
And no, it won’t be easy. But it is simple.
Pain is part of progress.
Growth requires discomfort.
Think back to one moment in your life you’re proud of.
Did it hurt a little? Was it uncomfortable?
Was it worth it? You already know the answer.
Find a Coach. Find a Community.
If you need a mentor—go find one.
If you need accountability—hire a coach who sees the real you even when you’re doubting yourself. Someone who will hold your feet to the fire while reminding you what you’re made of.
At Rock City Complete Fitness, we’ve created more than a gym—it’s a coaching community. We serve Central Arkansas—including Conway, Maumelle, Little Rock, and North Little Rock—and we’re easy to get to from anywhere in the region.
We’re a safe space where you can be messy and still make progress.
We believe in you before you believe in yourself.
And we’ll remind you every single day: You belong. You matter. You can do hard things.
So stop waiting for the imaginary version of “getting yourself together.”
The time is right now.
Take the first step.
And let’s get to work!
